An NRI usually works to two tax calendars at once, and they do not line up. India’s tax year runs from 1 April to 31 March. The UK’s runs from 6 April to 5 April. The US, Canada, Singapore and Germany use the calendar year, and Australia runs from 1 July to 30 June. So the same rent from a flat in Mumbai can fall into one Indian year but straddle two British ones, and a return in one country is often due while the other country’s year is still open.
This page lists the dates that come round every year in India and in the countries where most NRIs live. For each one it says who it usually applies to, links to the NRIWallah tool that helps, such as the UK tax calculator, the US tax calculator or the rent TDS calculator, and links to the official page the date was checked against.

15 March · Indian advance tax, last instalment (100%)
As for the June instalment.
31 March · Indian tax year ends
Everyone. Your days in India up to today decide whether you are NRI, RNOR or resident for the year.
1 April · Indian tax year starts
Everyone with Indian income. A lower-TDS certificate (Form 13) covers one year, so apply again for the new one.
15 June · Indian advance tax, first instalment (15%)
NRIs whose Indian tax after TDS is ₹10,000 or more for the year, usually because of rent or capital gains taxed at a lower TDS rate.
31 July · Indian income tax return (ITR) due
Individuals who don't need a tax audit, which is most NRIs (ITR-2). File if your Indian income is above the basic exemption, or to claim a TDS refund.
15 September · Indian advance tax, second instalment (45% in all)
As for the June instalment.
15 December · Indian advance tax, third instalment (75% in all)
As for the June instalment.
31 January · UK Self Assessment online return and tax bill due
Anyone who files a UK return, for the tax year that ended the April before. Also the first payment on account for the current year, if you make them.
5 April · UK tax year ends, last day for this year's ISA allowance
UK residents. An unused ISA allowance does not carry over.
31 July · UK second payment on account
Self Assessment filers whose last bill was over £1,000 and less than 80% taxed at source.
5 October · Register for UK Self Assessment
Anyone filing a UK return for the first time, for example with Indian rent or interest to declare.
31 October · UK paper tax return due
Only if you file on paper; online returns have until 31 January.
15 January · US estimated tax, fourth payment
As for the September payment.
15 April · US tax return, tax payment and FBAR due
US citizens, green-card holders and residents. Tax owed is due today even if you file later. The FBAR is due if your foreign accounts, Indian ones included, together topped $10,000 in the year.
15 June · US return due for citizens and green-card holders living abroad
Those living outside the US on 15 April get two more months to file automatically, but interest runs on unpaid tax from 15 April.
15 September · US estimated tax, third payment
If tax isn't withheld from enough of your income, for example Indian rent or interest.
15 October · Extended US return and FBAR due
If you asked for an extension (Form 4868). The FBAR is extended to this date automatically.
15 March · Canadian tax instalment
If the CRA has sent you an instalment reminder. Further instalments fall on 15 June, 15 September and 15 December.
30 April · Canadian tax return and balance due
Most individuals. Report Indian income here, and file Form T1135 with the return if your foreign property cost more than C$100,000.
15 June · Canadian return due if you or your partner are self-employed
Self-employed people and their partners. Any balance owing was still due on 30 April.
31 October · Australian tax return due (lodging yourself)
Residents lodging their own return for the year that ended on 30 June. A registered tax agent can usually lodge later.
18 April · Singapore income tax return due (e-filing)
Residents asked to file by IRAS. Paper returns are due on 15 April.
31 July · German tax return due (filing yourself)
People who must file a return for the previous calendar year and do it without a tax adviser.
The dates are the usual ones. When a date falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the tax authority usually moves it to the next working day, and governments sometimes extend a deadline for a particular year, as India has done for tax returns several times. Before you file or pay, check the official source linked under each date; it always has the final word.
A date applies to you only if its condition does. Most NRIs file an Indian return only when their Indian income is above the basic exemption or they want back tax withheld at source, and pay Indian advance tax only when the tax left after TDS reaches ₹10,000 in a year. Your days in India decide whether you are an NRI at all, which the day tracker works out. In the UAE and the other Gulf states there is usually no personal income tax return, so only India’s dates apply, along with India’s deemed-residency rule for some Indian citizens.
Signed in to NRIWallah, this page shows India’s dates and your own country’s together, soonest first with the days left, and you can add them to the calendar on your phone. The same dates appear against the jobs in your NRI plan, which lists what usually comes up at your stage of life abroad. The calendar explains when things are due; it is not advice on whether a filing or payment applies to you.
Every rate and threshold here is sourced, dated and shown on the page — but tax rules change, and we would rather be told than be wrong. Reports go to the team that maintains the tool. If you can point at the official source, that gets it fixed fastest.
