Why NRI-specific reviews matter

Generic review sites rate money-transfer apps for everyone. NRIs have different questions: Does it deposit directly into an NRE account so the interest stays tax-free? Does it settle by IMPS in minutes or SWIFT in days? Will the paper trail satisfy both the IRS and the Indian Income Tax Department? A service that is excellent for sending EUR within Europe can be mediocre for the USD-to-INR corridor, and vice versa.

Every review on this page is written for the NRI use case. We score providers on the four criteria in our rating methodology: total cost (exchange-rate margin plus fees), delivery speed to Indian accounts, NRE/NRO support, and transparency. The star rating you see here is the same one used on our corridor pages, such as the guide to sending money from the US.

Some reviews contain affiliate links, which means NRIWallah may earn a commission if you sign up — this never affects the rating or the cons we publish, and the full detail is on our how we make money page. We review providers with no affiliate programme whenever they are strong options for NRIs.

This section is new and growing. Up next: reviews of NRE/NRO accounts from the major Indian banks, NRI-friendly brokers from our broker comparison, and health insurers from our insurance guides. If there is a provider you want reviewed, tell us.

Each review follows the same structure. It opens with a verdict and the rating, sets out what the provider costs on a corridor we track, describes speed and NRE or NRO support, lists where the provider falls short, and says who it suits. The cost figures come from the comparison data on our USD remittance page, so a review and the comparison table agree, and each review gives the date of the data it uses.
