Every NRI process — opening a bank account, filing taxes, buying property, applying for OCI — comes with a document list. And every time you start, you find yourself scrambling because the list lives in a forum post from 2019, a bank’s PDF, or a half-remembered phone call with a CA in Bangalore.
These checklists try to consolidate the most common requirements into one place, with progress tracking so you can step away and come back.
Currently covers seven of the most common NRI processes:
Pick a process from the buttons at the top. Tick off items as you collect them. Your progress is saved in your browser — close the tab, come back next week, your checks are still there.
These lists are guidance, not law. Specific banks, AO (assessing officer) jurisdictions, and state RERA authorities may ask for additional documents or accept alternatives. Always confirm with the specific institution before flying to India — a missing document can cost a trip’s worth of time.
For complex cases (large property transactions, contested inheritance, dual residency tax positions), engage a CA in India and a cross-border adviser in your country of residence.
This tool stores data only in your browser. NRIWallah does not collect, transmit, or have any access to your checklist progress.
